The recent The Last of Us: Part 2 video by ElAnalistaDeBits shows an apparent downgrade since E3 2018. The game certainly contains lots of parts showcased in E3 and if you have played it long enough, you might have stumbled upon them already. The YouTube video shows us how some parts actually don’t look what they were in the E3 2018 demo.
First of all, in The Last of Us: Part 2 video we can see the developers tuned down the fog and reflection effects. Furthermore, the video shows us the less number of lighting particles. Even so, some characters do not even cast a shadow. Additionally, the downgrade also includes some character designs. Some of the -less important- characters in the game have less polygons on their faces, compared to the E3 demo.
In two years, Naughty Dog development team also decided to degrade the graphics on some vehicles and objects. Water effects and animated particles appear less than the E3 demo. In short, The Last of Us: Part 2 video shows us, despite the technical excellence Naughty Dog possesses, current generation of consoles have certain limitations. Therefore, the downgrade we see on our screens may be the product of an optimisation mentality. Naughty Dog managed to create a game that looks good and runs smoothly. In order to achieve that, it is possible that they sacrificed some of the technological aspects.
Nevertheless, The Last of Us: Part 2 looks great on the PS4. If want to experience what it offers, but in doubt, definitely check our review here.
