Naughty Dog’s highly anticipated title The Last of Us Part 2 created a great divide amongst the players. Some crticised the game for its plot, some defended its brave choices. However, among this controversy, The Last of Us: Part 2 breaks the retail sales record of the UK.
According to the latest report by gamesindustry.biz, The Last of Us: Part 2 has sold 1% more than Uncharted 4 in its opening week. Consequently, the title became the greatest boxed game release of 2020. Furthermore, The Last of Us: Part 2 is officially the fastest selling PS4 game. The report also states, this rapid success also shadows the previous PS4 exclusives God of War and Marvel’s Spider-man, which makes it even hard to believe. The former managed to sell 3.1 and the latter sold 3.3 copies after their releases in 2018.
Moreover, The Last of Us: Part 2 also outperformed its prequel with 76% more copies sold. Thinking that its predecessor was only a novelty back in those days also indicates the success in Naughty Dog’s recent venture. Do bear in mind that these figures do not include the digital sales and downloads. Analysts state these numbers can only be greater when all the sales are combined.
It seems Naughty Dog’s recent title will be at the centre of the divide for quite some time. Yet, currently the buzz around the game seems to be quite beneficial as The Last of Us: Part 2 breaks another sales record, which may signal there is more to come.
