The parent company of Rockstar Games, Take-Two, announced an update on sales of its games. According to the sales data, GTA 5 sales have now reached 130 million. On the other hand, the second-biggest franchise of the studios, Red Dead Redemption 2, also surpassed 31 million sales.
We can state that the publisher Take-Two had a record quarter, partly thanks to all the microtransactions. Since the game’s launch in 2013, GTA 5 managed to sell more than 130 million copies. This alone makes the game the best-selling game of this decade.
Also, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online are other two big contributors to Take-Two’s revenues. The publisher states that Red Dead Redemption 2 sold more than 31 million copies following its release. Moreover, the online mode of the game, Red Dead Online also brings a lot of earnings to the publisher. But, we should note that this is not even near to what GTA Online brings.
Within the report, Take-Two pledges to support GTA Online and Red Dead Online with continuous new content. As GTA 5 was recently made free-to-own on Epic Games Store for a limited amount of time, these may change. We think the free giveaway has the potential to bring Take-Two even more revenue from microtransactions.
